The world of golf is never the same when Tiger Woods is not in the field. So what will the rest of the golf season be like with Tiger Woods’s injury preventing him from playing the rest of the 2008 season? Tiger Woods is a staple in the sports world and many claim the best athlete of our time. Many companies across the United States and world sponsor Tiger Woods as well. So what impact does an injury do to both the golfing world and the sponsorship world that Tiger Woods has created?
The world of golf is not the most popular sport on television but when Tiger Woods takes the field even non-golfers watch. The world of golf is at a loss without him in the field and many golfer and non-golfers stop watching golfing events if he is not in the field. When Tiger Woods gets an injury it impacts the golf world. Tiger Woods has had several injuries over the past years and even though he is never the same after an injury he seems to play with more intensity than before and battles to the bitter end. Even though everyone expects Tiger Woods so come back from his ACL injury for the 2009 season what is the impact of this towards golfing sponsors?
If you watch television you might have seen an ad series by Buick to “Tee-Off with Tiger” but this effort has now been canceled. Buick has canceled several other ads as well. Even though the ads have been canceled Buick has decided that they will still pick a winner and a new date to go and play with Tiger Woods but with an ad campaign ending early you can only imagine how many sponsorship dollars to the PGA and USGA have been lost.
Tiger Woods maybe the best athlete of our time which makes him a staple in the sports world. When he is not in the field or in the public spotlight the golf world and his sponsors are at a loss for words.
