Choosing a Golf Ball

Golf balls have come a long way from the original leather covered, goose feather filled balls. Balls are now designed to assist a golfer in the best way. Choosing the right golf ball can improve your game and score over time.

There are three main categories of golf balls distance and durability or the (DD) ball, distance and control or the (DC) ball, and control and feel or the (CF) ball. There is a new goal in golf ball production market trend toward high performance balls that give extra distance and durability as well as control and feel. They are known as the (DCF) ball.

The core of the ball is what effect the distance of the ball. A two piece ball has a solid center which make the ball spin faster. It is usually made from rubber or a thermoplastic composition. A solid center multi-layered golf ball has one large solid piece at the core, and is wrapped in an additional layer and reduces the spin rate.

The cover of the ball is either a elastometer or Surlyn. The composition of the ball controls the spin, distance and landing. It is important to understand what each type of ball is designed to do. You should practice with various balls to see which one suits your need. You may need to use different balls on different holes of the course. You may have to choose a ball that rolls further, or one that sticks when landing.

Become educated and practice with different balls to determine which is best for your needs.
