Tiger Woods's 2008 Season Ends

The golf world got a chance to see Tiger Woods play an extra 19 holes this year in attempt to win the US Open, but no one is going to see Woods play golf again this year.  Woods announced on his website that he will not be playing golf again this year, he had been playing ten months with a torn ligament in his left knee.  He will be having reconstructive surgery on his left knee that he had hurt nearly three months ago.  This means that he will not be playing in the British Open or have the chance to win the US PGA Championship coming up August for the third year in a row.  He will not be able to defend his year-end Fed Ex Cup playoff title either.

Tiger's 2008 season is wrapping up with seven events played, five wins, his 14th major title, and finishing second at the Masters. This season he never finished lower than fifth.  Maybe with that, he will still have a chance for another Player-of-the-Year Award.  His knee had been bothering him for awhile, and he still stuck it out to play in the US Open, that should give his some consideration for the award.

For Woods and all of his fans, this is bad news.  However, there are 200 other golfers in the PGA Tour that now feel like they have a chance to win.  To many fans, Tiger is the tour and it will not be the same watching golf without him.  His decision to not playing the rest of the season was a good one, it is  for his own health and well-being, not to mention the rest of his golf career.
