Golf Balls

The feathery Cube ball was the first golf ball ever made. It was covered with leather, and stuffed with chicken or goose feathers. Stitches were made and then hammered until they were firm. Balls like this were used for four centuries.

The Gulla Ball was made in 1848.  It was made from compounds from a tree in Malaysia.  They were hand made, lower cost, and resistant to water
Gullah Percha Ball, changed the dimple texture on the ball and were also hand made. The Bramble was at the time the best ball made.  They had the mark of private brands of the Scottish club makers such as Morris, Robertson, or Gourlay. The Rubber Ball was used in the year 1898.  It contained for the first time rubber threads a solid rubber core.

Today we have the modern ball invented in 1932.  It set the standardization of the golf balls we use today. The max weight of the balls are 1.602 oz, and the diameter of the ball is to be 1.680 in.  Later after the testing became a max velocity of 250 ft per second.
Currently the balls in modern day are made of space age materials. Most golf balls on sale today have about 300 – 450 dimples. There were a few balls having over 500 dimples before, and the record holder was a ball with 1,070 dimples.

We have been playing Golf since the 17th Century.  The balls and the game have changed through the years, yet the sport has managed to become more popular over time with the great players of the past and present.  It is a sport of finesse, skill, patience, entitlement and open to young, old, beginner and professional.
