Tiger Woods is considered one of the best to every play the game of golf. Recently, Tiger Woods scared a lot of his fans and family by suffering a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee. Tiger states that his knee has been bothering him for at least 10 years and it finally gave out in July of 2007. It is not a question to Tiger Woods on whether he will play golf again; it is a question of when. Tiger is looking forward to a full recovery, and is currently resting at home, with his leg in a brace, for at least 3 weeks.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery uses a graft from another part of your body to replace the ligament. Surgeons are using the graft from Tiger’s hamstring to repair his injury. The surgery is to reconstruct a torn ligament by reconstructing the ACL as opposed to just repairing it. The ACL surgery is started by making incisions in the torn area, this is considered athroscopic surgery. The surgery can also be done as an open surgery, in which the incision would be much larger. The ACL surgery is done under a general anesthesia and is usually done as an outpatient visit.
Tiger has undergone the surgery and has the possibility of rehabilitation. The healing process varies, for some it can take months to heal and others it may take 6 to 8 weeks. Tiger Woods believes that the surgery was an important thing to do for his future and that in the long run, it will only help his golf game.
