Tiger Woods: Playing Through the Pain

None of the other players or even his coaches knew that Tiger Woods's knee was bothering him as much as it was. Tiger has undergone several surgeries to his knee, once in 2002 and again in April of this year. It takes a lot of pain to stop a champion in his tracks, especially one as devoted to the game as Woods.

After the surgery in April, Woods did not return until the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, which was his first and last appearance this year. At Torrey Pines, Woods went into a sudden death round to win. During the Buick Invitational, there were several times that Tiger was seen limping or using his club as a cane. Once, Woods birdied a hole and went for his characteristic fist pump, only to stumble suddenly because of the pain in his knee. Woods is expected to be out until the spring of 2009 after having surgery on his ACL. In 2002, after being out for surgery, he came back and won 3 out of his first 4 tournaments.

Tiger is considered one of the world's best at golf, and there is no way a surgery will stop him from coming back and living up to his reputation. Tiger is currently working wish his physical therapist, Keith Kleven, in Las Vegas; he is expected to make a full recovery and be back in time to have a shot at the Masters.
