On October 27, 1956 in the town of Middlebury, Vermont Patricia Leslie Sheehan was born. At the age of two Patty's father gave her a sawed off golf club and she started to practice. When Patty was 14 she was a nationally ranked skier but she chose the game of golf over skiing. Patty's family moved to Reno, Nevada where she could practice more. In high school, Patty won three straight championships. She then attended the University of Nevada for three years, and then transferred to San Jose State University.
In 1980, Patty turned professional and played on the LPGA circut. She would have to wait until the following year to have her first pro win. In that same year, she won Rookie of the Year. Patty became a strong opponent and won eight times in two years. She won the LPGA Championships in those two years as well. As time moved on, Patty only got better. In the 1990's is where she seemed to play at her best. She had five wins in 1990 alone. In the years that followed she won back to back U.S. Opens and, in 1994, she won the LPGA Championship. In 1996, Patty had her final pro win.
Patty lost her home during the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. Even with losing her home and possessions she didn't give up and realized things could have been worse. Sheehan was inducted to the LPGA hall of fame on November 13,1993. During her pro career she had a total of 35 LPGA Tour wins. Since retirement Patty shares a home with her partner Rebecca Gasta and their two adopted children.
