LPGA Great Betsy King

Betsy King was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on August 13, 1955. During her career on the LPGA Tour, she won 34 LPGA Tours and six major championships. Her career earnings total $7,637,622. Her best results in major championships include winning the Kraft Nabisco three times, in 1987, 1990 and 1997. She won the LPGA Championship in 1992 and the U.S. Women's Open in 1989 and 1990.

King attended college and played golf at Furman University at the same time as future pro-golfer Beth Daniel. She turned pro and joined the LPGA Tour in 1977. She won three titles in 1984, including the Women's Kemper Open. She was named LPGA Tour Player of the Year that same year. Between 1984 and 1989, King had more wins, 20 LPGA events, than any other golfer in the world during that time.

Between 1984 and 1985, King would win at least one major event per year. She was named Player of the Year three times during this period. With a record thirty wins by 1995, she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. King recorded her last LPGA Tour win, her 34th overall, in 2001.

Betsy King hosted at least one LPGA Tour event per year for 1994-2004. She is an active worker for charities, including Habitat for Humanity and orphan relief programs. The many awards King has won include the Best Female Golpher ESPY Award and the LPGA Vare Trophy in 1987 and 1989. She is the latest American to be the leading money winner on the LPGA Tour.
