For Tiger Woods, a U.S. Open Victory was followed up four months later with a temporary stint as a caddie. How did that happen? Well, with a double stress fracture in his leg and torn ligaments in his knee, Tiger had to undergo an intense knee surgery, but he returned to Torrey Pines without any signs of a limp.
Tiger stayed right off the 18th green, giving him flashbacks to where he said, "I opened the curtains and saw the 18th green. I was like, 'You know what? That is pretty cool.' A different atmosphere. You can actually see. They don't have the grandstands in the way. I saw where the pin was and was thinking, 'You know what? I remember that putt.'" For Woods, getting to stay Sunday night in that exact location was a big bowl of irony.
Woods showed up in a golf cart sporting a caddie bib with the Buick’s symbol. He was there to be the prize for the winner of the Tee It Up with Tiger Sweepstakes, New Jersey’s own 59-year-old, John Abel.
For Abel, it was weird giving his clubs to Tiger Woods. Even though Woods is used to getting his clubs handed to him he said, "It was fun. This was totally cool. I've caddied before many times. For me to be out here and to be able to do it again, it's always fun." The upsetting thing for Woods is that he doesn’t know when he can do any of the rotational techniques used in playing a game of golf.
Walking for Tiger is fine, and he can even chip and putt now, but the doctors and Tiger are uncertain when he will be playing again.
