Kyle started racing in 2001 in the truck series at the age of 16, but NASCAR changed the rules and said that you had to be 18 years old to drive in one of their top series.
Kyle came back three years later, when he came back he won his first race in the Busch Series at the Richmond International Raceway. Later that year he won his first sprint cup race At Fontana driving for Rick Hendrick. Kyle was also the rookie of the year in 2005.
In 2008 Racing for Joe Gibbs he won at the Alanta Motor Speedway giving Toyota their first win in the series.
